Stoura Offshore Wind Farm supported important seabird monitoring efforts in Shetland during the 2024 summer season, working in collaboration with Arven Offshore Wind Farm and regional partners. The aim is to complete updated seabird colony counts across several Shetland Special Protection Areas (SPAs).
This effort builds on baseline work undertaken in 2023, with follow-up surveys planned between April and August 2025. Key species of interest include northern fulmar, razorbill and Atlantic puffin which nest on Shetland’s dramatic cliff landscapes. The data collected will inform the environmental baseline for Environmental Impact Assessments for offshore wind farm developments and contribute to national efforts via the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC)/ British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) Seabird Monitoring Programme (SMP).
